Huluの東京オフィスでは、野球やトランペットなど様々な興味を持つバラエティー豊かなスタッフが働いています。そんな中、素晴らしいテレビ番組や映画が大好きという点では全員共通しています。
そんなHuluのスタッフが、今後「Huluスタッフのおすすめ作品」をご紹介していきます。数千タイトル以上の映画やテレビ番組のエピソードを現在Huluにてご提供していますが、その作品の多さに圧倒されて何が見たいかわからないとう方もいらっしゃるかと思います。また、Huluでは毎週新しい作品も続々と追加しています。サービス上では、各お客様に合わせたおすすめ作品のご紹介や、検索などの機能がありますが、加えて今後、各スタッフが個人的に「おもしろい」と思うおすすめのコンテンツをこのブログでご紹介していきます。

今週は、私が長年大好きなテレビ番組「バトルスター・ギャラクティカ」を皆様にご紹介します。本作品は、サイエンスフィクションのクラシック作品のリメイク版で、伝統的なサイエンスフィクションの常識をくつがえしたといっても過言ではない作品です。古びた戦艦ギャラクティカが、“サイロン”と呼ばれる機械の「種族」による壊滅的な核のホロコースト攻撃を生きのびた後に、人類がサバイバルする様子を描いている物語です。ビル・アマダ艦長（エドワード・ジェームズ・オルモス）とローラ・ロズリン大統領 （メアリー・マクドネル） は、残された5万人の生存者を率いて地球と呼ばれる未踏の新天地への逃亡を目指します。
「バトルスター・ギャラクティカ」（アメリカではイニシャルをとって、「BSG」とも呼ばれています）の魅力は、サイエンスフィクション独自の特殊効果や、エイリアンや豪華な宇宙船だけではありません。この作品が人気があるのは、その魅力的なドラマ展開です。愛憎、裏切り、希望といった人間の感情がよく表現されています。こうした素晴らしい作品は、Huluでも大切にしたいと思っています。BSGは、「ザ・ソプラノズ」や「ザ・ホワイトハウス」のように最高な状態で完成しているテレビドラマだと思います。本作は、それが宇宙船の上で起きているということです。

To that end, we’re excited to share with you our “Hulu Staff Picks of the Week.” With more than five thousand films and TV episodes currently on our service, we know it can be overwhelming to find your favorite content…and we’re adding more and more content every week! So in addition to helping you find great content through recommendations, personalization, and search, we are excited to highlight some of our favorite shows for you from April.
This week, I’m happy to share with you one of my favorite TV shows of all time: Battlestar Galactica. This recent remake of the classic sci-fi series pushed boundaries beyond the traditional science fiction realms. Battlestar Galactica is the story of a rag-tag fleet of humans fighting for their survival, after living through a devastating nuclear holocaust started by the cybernetic Cylons. With only 50,000 humans remaining, Admiral Bill Adama (Edward James Olmos) and President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) must lead the small fugitive fleet of survivors into space in search of a mythical refuge known as Earth.
Battlestar Galactica (also known as “BSG”) is memorable not for its sci-fi special effects nor outlandish aliens or fancy space ships. Instead, BSG is known for its drama. Human emotions. Love. Hate. Betrayal. Hope. These are the tenets of great storytelling that we cherish at Hulu. BSG is drama at its finest, created in the mold of great television dramas like “The Sopranos” and “The West Wing” – this one just happens to take place on a spaceship.
Don’t believe me? Well, then you’ll just have to watch it for yourself in order to realize it’s one of the finest dramas of its time. You’d be frakking crazy to pass this one up. So say we all.
